First Baptist Church

The First Baptist Church (338 E Central Avenue) offers an excellent example of high-style neoclassical architecture. Its style is expressed by a modified cruciform plan featuring a central dome and a full-height pedimented gable portico which is supported by Ionic columns and has a classic entablature. The walls of the church are elegantly covered in buff-colored brick.

Decorative trim moldings adorn the church's interior. They include a chair rail, milled window and door frames, and a classical entablature that encircles the building at the junction of the walls and ceiling. A large 3-story addition was attached to the southwest corner of the building in the 1950s, otherwise the church retains much of its historic appearance.
