Building Division

The City's building and zoning codes were adopted to enhance the community's overall attractiveness and ensure the safety of homes and other structures built within the city limits. It is the duty and responsibility of every member of the community to comply with these codes by obtaining the proper permit before beginning a construction project.

Mission

It is the mission of the Building Division to protect the public health, safety and welfare by ensuring compliance with state and local building codes. The Building Division is also charged with ensuring compliance with the City's zoning codes in order to protect the character and maximize the value of neighboring properties.

Responsibilities

It is the responsibility of Division staff to review construction plans and ensure that proposed projects will meet all applicable codes, to issue all required permits, to conduct inspections throughout the construction process, and to ensure that projects are constructed in accordance with approved plans and in a manner that complies with code regulations.

The Building Division is located in the Municipal Administration Building, 201 W. Central Avenue and is open between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Notice to Our Customers

All inspections must be submitted through our Contractor Portal (https://secure.lakewalesfl.gov/permits) or called in before 4pm the day before the inspection is needed.
